Fodele

Between green plane-trees and the fresnes of the water, Fodele bears the palm of the art in renaissance Europe of the 16th century.

As Place of origin of El Greco (1541A.D.-1614A.D.) (Dominikos Kyriakos Theotokopoulos), whose works are esposed on the most famous art museums in Europe and in the world.

Many of them, decore until today temples and Royal palaces in Spain. A walk on the narrow traditional streets of Fodele, constitutes an almost diachronic, experience for the visitor, in a place that has many to elect enriching the pages of Cretan art history .

Do not omit to visit the museum of El Greco which was the residence of famous artist and where he was born and grew.

On the life and the work of El Greco was based also the recent cinematographic overproduction of Yannis Smaragdis, which was appearred in the cinemas on 18 October 2007.
Next to the museum there is also the Byzantine Church of Panagia decorated by interessant murals.
