Matala Beach

Matala see on the map

Just 66km from Heraklion, Matala beach on the south coasts of Crete, was the place of Minoan summer ceremonies, in honour of the Goddess of fertility, and at the same time the ancient harbour of Faistos.

Much later, and concretely the period of  (' 70ies), the beach on the Libyan sea and the impressive caves that remind elf's residences, became place of concentration and escape from the daily routine, for thousands of young boys and girls from Greece and the abroad (children of flowers).

Recently the archaeological school prohibited the entry and the stay into the caves.
